Santa Croce Camerina is just a few km from the city of Ragusa near the sea. The seaside hamlets of Kaukana, Casuzze, the seaside villages of Punta Braccetto and Punta Secca, famous for Inspector Montalbano, are part of the municipality. The regional museum of Kamarina and the Caucana archaeological park are very interesting.
Where Santa Croce Camerina stands today, the Greeks had founded in 598 BC. a cologne: Kamarina. Three centuries later the Romans conquered the colony and razed it to the ground, the Kamarinesi who escaped the looting took refuge near Punta Secca where they founded Kaucanae.
Among the most important monuments of the city are Palazzo Pace, a fine example of Liberty and the Mother Church which was built in the 13th century and renovated between the 18th century and the second half of the 19th century.
